Hey honeybees! Waiting on Wednesday is such a classic meme in the blogosphere and I can’t wait to look forward to some 2023 books! I’m pretty clueless about what’s coming out this year so this will definitely make me more aware of what’s hitting the shelves in a few months.
Starting off with an upcoming release, let’s talk about They’re Watching You by Chelsea Ichaso.

Title: They’re Watching You by Chelsea Ichaso
Published: January 3, 2023 from Sourcebooks Fire
Notes: Dark academia, thriller
Summary
(From Amazon)
When a secret society has you in their sights, it can lead to power, privilege… or death.
It’s been two weeks since Polly St. James went missing. The police, the headmistress of Torrey-Wells Academy, and even her parents have ruled her a runaway. But not Maren, her best friend and roommate. She knows Polly had a secret that she was about to share with Maren before she disappeared— something to do with the elite, ultra-rich crowd at Torrey-Wells.
Then Maren finds an envelope hidden among Polly’s things: an invitation to the Gamemaster’s Society. Do not tell anyone, it says. Maren is certain her classmates in the Society know the truth about what happened to Polly, though it’s no easy feat to join. Once Maren’s made it through the treacherous initiation, she discovers a world she never knew existed within her school, where Society members compete in high-stakes games for unheard-of rewards—Ivy League connections, privileges, favors.
But Maren’s been drawn into a different game: for every win, she’ll receive a clue about Polly. And as Maren keeps winning, she begins to see just how powerful the Society’s game is—bigger and deadlier than she ever imagined. They see, they know, they control. And they kill.

Thoughts
This sounds so good??? I love a secret society story and anything set at an academy. This is giving all the good dark academy vibes, which is a genre I’ve hardly read but I feel like is perfect for me. I tend to reach for mysteries/thrillers in the winter to add to the cold spooky weather, so the publication time is perfect.
I’ve also really enjoyed books that are published from Sourcebooks Fire. Ever since I started reviewing books and paying attention to publishers, I’ve taken note of which publishers I tend to really enjoy. There’s always going to be hit or misses, but I definitely dive into books faster if I’ve loved books from that imprint in the past. Am I the only one? Maybe lol.

Is this one on your radar? Will you be reading it in 2023 as well?
