Hello again honeybees! I’m so excited for this month. YallWest is at the end of the month and I’ve missed it every since going for the first time in 2019. It’ll be my first time riding a plane (I live in Northern California and it’s in Southern California which is roughly a 7-8 hour drive and I don’t have a license so…). I’m so excited to meet my booksta friends and be back in the irl book community!!
I’m also participating in Camp NaNoWriMo. I talked a bit about Project DQ (a working title) in my March Wrap Up and I’ll be have a longer post up about my WIP up soon, but it’s a NA sapphic contemporary set in university and revolving around disability in academia, sports, and the awkward beginning of adulthood. This book is my baby and I’m so excited to be so deep in this project. Hopefully I’ll be able to share more with you soon!
And now, onto my TBR.
My goal this month is to read three books but I have four on my list.

To Be Read

The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R Tolkien
Okay so I finished Fellowship literally as I’m typing this on April 1st but let’s pretend I didn’t! I spent two weeks reading this in March and unfortunately didn’t get to finish it so this is getting added to the April TBR just as a little cushion. At least I know this one will be finished lol.

The Two Towers by J.R.R Tolkien (Lord of the Rings #2)
I didn’t know that Lord of the Rings wasn’t technically a trilogy going into it but it definitely makes sense now. These books are slow reading but they’re great to dive into. I miss getting lost into a high fantasy world and I adore the hobbits so much, that even Tolkien’s dull writing can’t deter me from continuing on with the series. The BBC recordings of the audiobooks are so entertaining and way less complicated than the text, so that will definitely help get through the series.

The Return of the King by J.R.R Tolkien (Lord of the Rings #3)
I don’t think this needs much explanation 🙂

All The Feels by Olivia Dade
I’m so excited for this! Spoiler Alert by Olivia Dade was my favorite read of 2021 and this spin off was my most anticipated read of last year. I’ve been saving it for when I really need it and I could use a good romance right now. I’m hoping it’s even half as good as the first!
This isn’t explicitly in my TBR because I can’t find any good books, but if you have Kindle Unlimited smut recommendations I would LOVE to hear them. I also would like to read some poetry this month as it’s National Poetry Month but poetry and I haven’t been vibing these last few years, which is so disappointing because I used to read it all the time.

Camp NaNoWriMo
I’m super excited to be doing Camp Nano this year! I’m not on the official site because I find it kinda difficult to use and it doesn’t really have options for people that are editing as well as writing, which is what I’m doing. Unfortunately I decided to change POVs and the ending 30k words into the novel (can you hear my sobs??) so I’m going back and editing the beginning chapters before carrying on with the climax and resolution. My goals are a bit ambitious and I’m not sure if I’ll be able to write 2k words a day to be able to stay on track BUT even if I don’t “win” I’ll still have finished a good chunk of the first draft, which I’m so excited about.
And because I’m really bad at self promo, I’ll add that my WIP is a NA sapphic romance set in college. It involves a former softball star that falls from grace after developing a disability that causes her to quit the team and ruin their winning streak. By chance she is helped by a chronically ill freshman determined to prove her ability to everyone who’s ever doubted her, and change the obviously ableist policies set in the school. Together they work on a campaign to make change and encourage each other to embrace parts of themselves they thought they would always have to hide.
This first draft is literally trash but that’s normal, right? It’s supposed to make my eyes burn?
That’s that for the month! What’s on your TBR? Are you doing Camp NaNo as well? Are you going to YallWest?? (I’m so excited for YallWest I can’t). Also if you’ve read Lord of the Rings, I’d love to hear your (spoiler free) thoughts!
Bye for now honeybees.
Thank you for reading! Find me on Twitter, Instagram, and Goodreads for more bookish content and chats. See you soon!

i guess it’s too late now to join camp nano? i forgot all about it! (i’m definitely participating in the november one for sure)
