Hello and welcome to July! If you’ve been following me for a bit or have read my Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag post, you’ve seen that my reading year thus far had been mediocre. Everything changed in June! While I didn’t read nearly as many books as I’m used to (I’m used to averaging 10-12 in June and July), I’m very happy with the quality of my reads and they will for sure be on my Top Reads of the year post!

Books Read

Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo
5/5 stars ★★★★★
I finished this a month ago and I still don’t quite know what to say about it. Elizabeth Acevedo’s work is perfect for audio format, and that’s the route I took with this one. I’m a sucker for sister bond stories and this one really got me. It’s also historical fiction, so I learned about Flight AA587, which I’d never heard of before.

Ignite the Sun by Hanna Howard
3/5 stars ★★★
Okay so this one wasn’t great, but it was good. It had the potential to be better, and dragged a bit, but it was better than I was expecting. Review for this coming soon.

All Boys Aren’t Blue by George M. Johnson
5/5 stars ★★★★★
I read this in one day, in one sitting. It was phenomenal. I don’t know if I have enough intelligent words to write a full review, but I highly recommend looking at Own Voice reviews on Goodreads. This was just such a beautiful memoir that discussed being Black, queer, and human in entertaining and raw ways. Highly highly recommend.

Overall
I didn’t read nearly as much as I wanted to but quality > quantity. Most of my posts uploaded this month were very different than my usual but I really enjoyed writing them, and I especially look forward to more discussion posts soon!
I also reached and surpassed 300 followers on here! Thank you so much! My blog is special to me in ways that Instagram isn’t, so while this platform is a baby compared to my others, it’s my happy place. I’m very proud of this blog and I can’t wait to keep growing alongside it.
Thank you for reading! I hope you enjoyed this post. Please consider following for more posts like this! You can also find me on Instagram, Twitter, and Goodreads, or buy me a coffee on ko-fi. Thanks again for reading! Bye for now honeybees.

It’s so good! Heads up on the trigger warnings for sexual assault and assault. They were a bit graphic but they way the author handled those topics was very surprising. Happy July! I hope it’s a good one for you Emer 💖
