Hello again honeybees! I rarely do small check in posts, but this might be the new norm here because I feel like my personality hasn’t been standing out in my posts lately. Speaking of the new normal:
A lot of us feel helpless in combating racism in our life, and especially in America where the Black Lives Matter movement is (rightfully) making waves. Here’s a link to petitions, places to donate, education tools, and more that I highly encourage you to look at and share with friends. Signing petitions is free and very quick, so please consider taking a second to sign a few before you continue reading (or feel free to just sign petitions all day and not read this, that’s cool with me).
To be perfectly clear, I support Black Lives Matter and as imperfect of an ally/accomplice as I am, I will continue educating myself and support Black authors, bloggers, content creators, businesses–people period. Black lives matter. You deserve justice and equality. You deserve to feel safe.
One more time: Black Lives Matter. Please be actively anti-racist and do all you can to fight against racism, no matter where you are.
Personal Life Changes
This sounds so trivial compared to everything going on, I’m sorry.
I decided to start with this section because it’ll explain a lot about the upcoming–subtle but important–changes to my blog.
First, I graduated high school on Friday, June 5th. It was anticlimactic and depressing but I did it! Now onto new adventures.
I’m starting university as an English major in September (wild, am I right?) and I’ll be moving away for college. I might not be able to get a spot in the dorms so I’m looking into apartments right now, which is a financial responsibility I was definitely not anticipating but a freedom I am very much looking forward to.
This means that I need a job ASAP. I’m trying to get my anxiety used to the fact that I’ll have to work two jobs (work study and another) while navigating college. I’m in the process of getting diagnosed with a nerve condition that’s been severely affecting my ability to type, write, hold books, open things, etc., so this is…scary. I’ll make it work, but it means less time for reading and blogging. I’m doing my best to pre-write posts and brainstorm new and creative content to schedule while I sort out my life, but that’s why I’m especially touch and go lately.
I hope this doesn’t come across as full of self-pity. That’s not my intention and I know my problems are minuscule given the state of things. I’m blessed to have the opportunity to go to school, to have access to doctors and medicine, and I’m hoping this will bring into better light my intentions with this blog while also telling you a bit about me.
Bottom line: I’m losing money and free time faster than I can get it. Is this adulting????
The main reason I’m writing this post is because I’ve been working on a Harry Potter/ JK Rowling discussion post for the last six days (it’s a bit of a project to be honest) and I love discussion posts! They are so much work but they’re so fun!
I’m very excited to start writing more discussion posts as well as creative content beyond my usual reviews, TBRs, and Wrap Ups. If you have any topics you want me to talk about pleaseee let me know so I can start researching them!
I started this blog almost three years ago and it’s been my pride and joy, my safe space. Yes, I’ve worked really hard on my feed on Instagram, but this blog is free of harsh algorithm, free of condecending comments, free of pressure to conform. I wholeheartedly love blogging, and it pains to me think that I’ll have to slow down/stop blogging when school starts.
There’s a discussion going around about book bloggers being underappreciated and underpaid (considering that most of us go years without earning a penny/ losing money without any gain). I’ll leave Bellerose Reads’s post linked as well as a #readersforequality Instagram post for those wanting to learn more.
Why do I bring this up? Because I decided to make a ko-fi where you could (if you’re able) support me via a small donation (less than the price of a coffee at Starbucks). OKAY I’m very uncomfortable writing this portion so let’s speed things up. Your support would mean the world but prioritizing BLM donations is key, so I’m just going to let you know that the link to my ko-fi is there but…feel free to not use it? Wow I’m great at this self promotion thing. I’d love to be able to consistently blog and make an income off something that I love doing. Any tips or suggesting in that area would be appreciated beyond belief!
I will be posting more consistently! That’s the main point I want to make. Fresh content with more of my personality (but still book focused) is on the way. I feel like my posts have been so copy and paste lately, so I’m excited to have some experimental posts in my drafts.
While I have a bit of free time, I decided to work on a blogging project. It’s a bit out of my comfort zone, but I’m learning so much and I’m very excited to tell you all about it when everything is finalized and done. In the meantime, follow Colored Pages Book Tours on Instagram… 👀
I’m currently reading Dear Martin by Nic Stone, So You Want To Talk About Race by Ijeoma Oluo, Vitality by Crysta Levere, and six other books according to Goodreads. But honestly? I’m finding it incredibly hard to concentrate on anything lately.
I’m currently watching a lot of ASMR to combat my anxiety and I squeeze in episodes of Queer Eye whenever I don’t have a migraine. (This show gives me life!)
Currently obsessed with Childish Gambino/Donald Glover and every song I listen of his gives me life.
I am also 7 followers away from 300 followers on my blog—THANK YOU SO MUCH! I’ve never done a Q&A on here so I might do one once I hit that milestone. Thank you so much again.
Props to you if you actually read that rambling mess. I’m sure I’ll get better at this taking about myself thing with time.
How are you? Any updates (big or small) in your life or blog? What are you currently reading? What’s your favorite type of blog post to read? I have so many questions!
Thank you for reading! I hope you enjoyed this post. Please consider following for more posts like this! You can also find me on Instagram, Twitter, and Goodreads. Thanks again for reading! Bye for now honeybees.
