January 2020 Wrap Up: I Actually Read Books?

Hello again honeybees! The first month of the year was a trying one and I’m honestly proud that I read so much. I know some people average 20 books a month, even 40/50, but I’m lucky if I get to three. Five is a big accomplishment for me, especially when I added a busy beginning to second semester and pressing health issues.

Alright, enough talk. Now for the books!

Books Read

Canceled by Chris Boutté

This was my first read of the year and it was….interesting. All about Cancel Culture in YouTube, I expected something else from this book but I was still interested in the drama because soy chismosa. You can read my full review here.

In The Dream House by Carmen Maria Machado

I also expected something different from this one. I didn’t realize until writing this post that I read two nonfiction novels back to back but this one did the job of satisfying my craving, at least for the moment. This one examined domestic abuse in LGBTQ+ relationships through the author’s personal experience with domestic abuse. Trigger warnings for graphic depictions of abuse. You can read my full review here.

Desperandum by Pia Sophia

This was one of the strangest books I’ve ever read and I’m debating writing a review because honestly, I rather not think about it any more than I have to. There was some pretty demented short stories in here and they definitely aren’t for the faint of heart. I’ll link my goodreads review here.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling

I finally finished my reread of the third Harry Potter book at the end of the month and I loved it so much. This is my…eighth time reading it? Tenth? Not sure but I still tear up every time.

Thirteen Doorways, Wolves Behind Them All by Laura Ruby

This book. Okay listen, when I looked through the available books on Libby, this Historical Fiction/magical realism (?) novel stood out to me and I took a chance. I loved it. I’ll upload a full review soon but this is definitely making my top ten reads of the year.

This took way too long to post but I’ve been busy, unfortunately. February hasn’t been good to me so far but I hope you’re all having a different experience!

How many books did you read in January? Which one was your favorite? Are you ahead or behind on your reading challenge?

Thanks for reading! For more bookish content, follow me on Goodreads, Instagram, and Twitter. See you in the next post. Love, Destiny
