My Current Reads 11/8/19 | I Have No Control

Hello again honeybees! In my last post I talked about my slump and how I’m taking my reading lowkey. This is true in the sense that I’m not putting pressure on myself to read every single day, or even at all. However, I have started books in the past few months that I have yet to finish. Here’s the list, and reasons, why these books have been patiently sitting on my “currently reading shelf”:

Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare

I started this on July 14, 2019 according to Goodreads. I honestly am not loving it as much as I loved The Mortal Instruments (I know, I’m the only person who think that) and I stopped at around page 150 with the intention of pushing through it. Was this the book that started my slump? Let’s hope not.

Onyx (Lux #2) by Jennifer L Armentrout

I started this book on July 23, 2019 according to Goodreads. I love this book and series with everything I have. I was dividing my time between Onyx and Clockwork Angel so I could have a good book and a meh book. I think I just put this book down due to time and have yet to pick it back to again.

The Tenth Girl by Sara Faring

I started reading this on August 17, 2019. This book scares me so much and I was hesitant to read it. What really put me off was trying to keep it for Latinx Heritage Month and then not reading anything on my TBR that month. *sigh* I might move this to a temporary DNF if I don’t get to it within the month.

Siege and Storm (Grisha #2) by Leigh Bardugo

I started reading this on August 28, 2019. All of Leigh Bardugo’s books are perfect for fall, but I like to categorize the Grisha trilogy as winter reads. I can’t wait to have more time to continue with the series since I loved the first book.

The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood

Started reading: September 10, 2019

Will I ever finish? Probably not. I was supposed to have finished this by now but wow I’ve never disliked a reading assignment more. I’m determined to finish this because I did not spend all that time for nothing. Eventually I’ll move this to my “read” pile.

Latinx: The New Force in American Politics by Ed Morales

Started reading: September 15, 2019

This book is so freaking cool, just the title alone is wow. Yes, Destiny is fangirling so hard that she can’t English. This is a nonfiction book that examines the history and effect that Latinx culture and people have on America and I’m here for it. There isn’t enough time in the day but I’m determined to finish it before the end of the year.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling

Started reading: September 15, 2019

This is my seventh…eighth? Time reading this series and in the middle of my annual reread I got hit with a slump. Will that deter me from finish my favorite series ever? No. But I did expect to be further along in the series by now.

Imaginary Friend by Stephen Chbosky

Started reading: September 27, 2019

I got the audiobook ARC for this one and it was so damn good but soon became unnecessarily long. I’m at 41% and I still have 14 and a half hours left but I do intend to finish this one.

The Harvest (Call of the Sirens #1) by K.B. Benson

Started reading: October 6, 2019

This one excited me probably more than any book has this year. It’s set in my birthplace of Santa Cruz, California and I actually went to Santa Cruz several times when I was actively reading it. Unfortunately, it started to get a bit boring for me. I’m not sure if it was the writing or the slump but I’m hoping to give it another go soon.

The Crowns of Croswald (The Crowns of Croswald #1) by D.E. Night

Started reading: October 24, 2019

I’m actively reading this one at the moment and while I’m only 50 or so pages in, it’s been very unoriginal. I’m hopeful that with the introduction of a few twists, this book can stop being a cardboard cutout of Harry Potter and more of an original fantasy.

That concludes my small mountain of current reads. What about you? What are you currently reading? Are you enjoying it so far? Do you read several books at once or stick to one?

Bye for now honeybees.

Thanks for reading! For more bookish content, follow me on Goodreads, Instagram, and Twitter. See you in the next post. Love, Destiny

I started the second book in the Witcher series in August and still haven’t finished it…It’s not that I hated it I just got distracted by other books. Hopefully you can get through some of these!

You are absolutely not the only person who prefers the Mortal Instruments to the Infernal Devices. I also DNF-ed The Handmaid’s Tale although I strive to finish it one day. Also Siege and Storm was my favorite of the three Grisha books.
