Bookish Confessions pt. 1

Hello again honeybees! This blog post comes from the first bookish confession, and admittedly I’m not sure how many of these I have. These are not to be confused with my Unpopular Opinions posts, which I’ll be continuing soon.

These are just things within the bookish realm that I don’t talk about or don’t want to talk about for fear of being ostracized.

Okay, deep breaths for this first one.

I’m Afraid I’ll Never Find A Book I Love More Than Ari and Dante

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz is 100% my favorite book of all time. I read it in 2017 and it’s been my favorite book since. My list of faves is very small and I haven’t added to it in a long time. I’m very afraid that I’ll never find another favorite again. Only the deepest of problems on this page, am I right?

I Order At Least Half My Books Off Amazon

I’m such a champion of bookstores, especially independently owned and operated bookstores. My city had six bookstores a few years ago and now there’s only one struggling indie. Plus, I’m a full time student in a low income family. I love books but they are so expensive. With Prime and two day free shipping, how could I resist?

I Constantly Check The Remaining Pages/ Time in A Book

Sometime when I started blogging, reading became more of a race than a “journey.” Now it’s just a habit to check the remaining pages/time left in a chapter or the book. I know some people would say that that’s the mark of a bad book, but I do it with my 4-5 star books too.

Once I’m Done With A Good Book, I Give It A Hug

Can somebody say “weird”? Am I the only one that does this? Like, I’ve been holding this precious book in my hands for hours and now that it’s over and my heart is either broken or made whole again, I need to hold it close to me and be with it for just a second longer. And that, my friends, is how you know it was an A+ book. I’ve only hugged two books this year, and if I write a review saying that I “loved it so much that I gave it hug”, you know it is real.

I’ve Only Read One Hardcover Book This Year

Floppy paperbacks for the win! I don’t know when my aversion to hardcovers started, but it got full steam this year. Besides briefly reading Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them in July and DNFing a hardcover in June, I haven’t picked up the bulky hardcovers in 2019.

I’m Pretty Selective With My Goodreads Friends

I’m really exposing myself here but yes, it’s true, I’m not shy to reject a request. If we don’t have similar interests and you don’t write even the shortest reviews every few months, I probably won’t follow you. I get a lot of recommendations from Goodreads and I want friends on there who will give me their honest and detailed opinions on books that I’m interested in reading!

Shameless plug: If you’re reading interests are similar to mine (I read all sub genres in YA/NA and the occasional Adult romance or historical fiction) and you sometimes write reviews, add me on Goodreads! I’m always looking for more people to follow and interact with on there.

Reviews? I Skim Them

Yikes! Is this against some blogger etiquette or something? Probably. I very rarely read every word of a review and usually just skim things in bold or look at the person’s rating. However, I do really love reviews (writing them, skimming them, using them to add to my TBR) so please bloggers, never stop posting them!

If you’re curious which reviews I do read in full, they’re usually the really organized ones like those featured on Kelly @ Another Book In The Wall or really engaging/visual reviews like those on Jenacidebybibliophile ‘s blog (love those gifs!)

I Hype Up Latinx Books But Don’t Read Them

I felt attacked immediately after writing that but sadly it’s true. I have tons on my TBR and I plan on prioritizing them in the coming months, years, etc, but lately they’ve been collecting dust on my shelves. It’s depressing because there are so many amazing Latinx books coming out this year! We’ve honestly been blessed and I’m over here reading the most non diverse novels like they’re going out of print.
