May Wrap Up + June TBR

Hello again honeybees! My wrap up this month isn’t too long and this month was pretty awful so we’re going to take all the enthusiasm I have for next month and inject it into this post!

Now, can I get a drumroll for the wrap up?

Books Read in May

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff (reread) — 5/5 stars

I reread this book via audiobook and I promise, they are not lying when they say this audiobook is amazing! (Who is “they”? Everyone, I guess.) I really missed AIDAN, the plot twists, AIDAN, the strange format, AIDAN, and the entertaining banter between characters. And AIDAN.

Fifty Days by Brittney Kristina — 3.5/5

I had the opportunity to read an ARC of this book before it got republished and while I didn’t love it as much as I hoped to, it did get me out of a reading slump. You can read my full review here.

I only read two books which was my goal. I said I’d be happy about it in the beginning of May and I honestly am. This was a tough month but I did well.

Tips and Tricks For Getting Out of A Reading Slump

ARC Review: Fifty Days by Brittney Kristina

Four blog posts was my goal and I’m happy I achieved it.

June TBR

Dark Shores by Danielle L Jensen (finish)

Have I been reading this since March? Absolutely. I’m so upset that I haven’t finished yet because it really is a spectacular book and definitely a contender for my top ten reads of the year.

We Set The Dark On Fire by Tehlor Kay Mejia

Latinx Book Club is reading this in June and I’m pumped to join them! I know this will be a new favorite.

Something Like Gravity by Amber Smith

This comes out in the middle of the month and I’m in the bookstagram and creative blog tour for this book (to say I’m excited would be an understatement.) I don’t know too much about it except that it involves a trans boy falling in love and is compared to Love, Simon (my absolute favorite) and Eleanor and Park. It sounds so adorable and I cannot wait to read this ahhhhh!

Cloaked In Shadow by Ben Alderson

All I know is there’s a gay romance and elves, and honestly this is all I really need to know. I’m pumped for this book!

Bloom by Kevin Panetta

This is a cute graphic novel (gay, of course) that I bought in February and have been saving for pride month! I also really love to read graphic novels in the summer, if you have recs please drop them below.

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz (reread)

Also known as my favorite book (tied with Simon vs.) and the best summer read ever. I haven’t decided if I want to listen to the audiobook again or physically reread it but tab it this time, but either way I’ll hopefully be rereading this beauty soon.

June Goals

Now that it’s finally summer, I have a whole laundry list of things I need to procrastinate doing. I’m excited to jump back into my WIP and actually get some reading done while I have the time. Here’s just a few overly ambitious goals that I hope to achieve.

Read 10 books

-Read as many LGBTQ+ books as possible

Hit 17k words on my WIP

I’m at 14.1k right now and I really want to wrap up this first draft so I can go crazy with my red pen.

Post on my blog 6 times

I’m obviously doing so well and totally not procrastinating at all. I do have a lot of posts planned that I’m looking forward to write, though.

Post more on bookstagram

My engagement has dropped by a ridiculous amount but I still want to work on improving my feed and taking lots of stock photos for when I’m insanely busy in the fall.

Write a short story

Every year my local bookstore hosts a short story contest for young writers and I’m going to finally pluck up the courage and submit something. I want to see what I’m capable of and maybe place in the top three. The money would go towards my meager college fund anyway. This is my second to last year that I can enter and the worst they can say is try again next year.

How was your May? Do you have any big goals for June? Is it summer where you are? Tell me everything in the comments!

Bye for now honeybees.
