Sunshine Blogger Award 2019

Hello again honeybees! I’m so excited and surprised to announce that I was nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award by the lovely Octavia @ Mythical Reads. (Go check out their posts, you won’t regret it!) I post once every thousand years, so being nominated for any type of award seems like a joke, but I’ve been assured that it is, in fact, done in all seriousness.

What Is The Sunshine Blogger Award?

(Taken from Octavia’s post because I can’t say it any better) The Sunshine Blogger Award is a mark of recognition given from one blogger to another to acknowledge their creativity, originality, and positivity their blog inspires.

  1. Write a post about your nomination and the award

  3. Display the Sunshine Blogger Award Logo
  4. List the rules within your blog post
  5. Answer the eleven questions given to you by the blogger who nominated you in your post
  6. Nominate up to eleven other bloggers and give them eleven questions to answer

Questions Given To Me

What is your favorite thing about the book blogging community?

Besides everything? I love the creativity and the shared love for books. Everyone understands that our TBRs haunt our dreams and sometimes we just need a book right now even though it would most likely get put on a shelf and not thought about for another few months or so. I love the community because there really isn’t another like us anywhere on the internet or in the world.

If you could witness any event of the past, present, or future, what would it be?

This is such a hard question to answer! As a total history nut, I have only twenty periods bouncing around my head, all of which I’d love to experience. If I really had to choose, I’d go for the height of King Louis XIV’s power only so I can wear a pretty dress and go chill at Versailles. There are so many other *cough* better *cough* time periods but I’m just in an extravagant mood.

What’s the best book you’ve read so far this year?

I won an ARC of The Beast’s Heart by Leife Shallcross in a giveaway and it’s been my favorite read so far this year! I love Beauty and the Beast and that purple prose was everything! I’ve never read a retelling from the Beast’s perspective and it was done so, so well. As an avid fan of BatB, I struggle with the whole Stockholm Syndrome debate but this retelling fixed tons of problems and added a whole new dimension to the Beast.

Do you reread books or is reading them once enough for you?

I’m always rereading at least one book. I can’t help it, I’m nostalgic.

If you could live in any fictional world, what would it be?

I want to say the wizarding world of Harry Potter because it’s fricking Harry Potter but my mind instantly went to Wonderland. I’d love to chill with the Mad Hatter and explore this nonsensical world more.

How did you come up with your blog name?

It was originally “Honey Reads” because my family calls me Honey and I read (shocking, I know.) But then I wanted something more personal and decided to add “my” to the beginning. Only my family and close friends know about the “honey” nickname and adding the “my” is one way of keeping them with me as I embark on this scary blogging journey.

Is there a book you wish you had never read?

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas. You can read about my feelings on that book (along with other unpopular bookish opinions) here. This answer comes not from an intense hate of the book but a desire to not be in the minority. Everyone and their mothers love this book but every time I see it in pictures or read the title, I mentally gag. Oops.

What is your favorite food to snack on while reading?

I don’t eat and read so…next question!

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

The best advice I’ve been given lately is “the worst anyone can say is no.” I overthink every decision so embracing this mindset has definitely helped me when jumping into new opportunities.

What is your favorite season?

Fall! In my slice of California, we really only have two seasons: winter and fall. In the summer it sometimes reaches over 70 degrees but very rarely above 100. I love how I can wear sweaters everyday and not be hot under the sun, and the holidays are my favorite! The trees don’t change color around here but I’m still obsessed with the overall atmosphere and vibe that comes with fall.

Give us three words to describe your 2019 so far.

So damn hard.

  1. Octavia @ Mythical Reads says:

Yay, I loved reading your answers!!

I’ve been looking for a good Beauty and the Beast retelling, so I’ll have to check out the one you mentioned! I too don’t particularly love when the Stockholm Syndrome appears in books, so it’s great to hear that it doesn’t play a major role in the Beast’s Heart.

I can relate to not being an SJM fan– A Court of Thorns and Roses was torture to read, and Throne of Glass stopped being somewhat decent after the second book. Plus, both series glorify toxic relationships that often center around male dominance… Gotta love that (not).

“The worst anyone can say is no” is wonderful advice! I also struggle with being an extremely indecisive person, so these words were really helpful to hear!

It’s a bummer to hear that your 2019 hasn’t been too great so far. I hope events take a turn for the better in the near future! Just remember to take care of yourself, and that your mental health comes before anything else. ❀

I hope you enjoyed answering the questions! Also, I hope my nomination didn't make you feel pressured to blog. 😞 I know that posting can often feel exhausting, and that we shouldn't stress over getting things published if it might take a mental toll.

I'm wishing you a happy and healthy week, Destiny!! This was a lovely post! <# ☺
