Series I Haven’t Finished

Hola honeybees! So lately I’ve noticed that I’m getting worse with keeping up with the Kardashians sequels and series. I also felt like writing up a quick, list filled, blog post.

I’ll get the controversial ones out of the way first. If you could please refrain from throwing tomatoes at me, I’d greatly appreciate it. And if there are any sequels you really think I should continue with, let me know!

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

I didn’t like the first book and I’m really iffy about continuing. I heard it gets better but do I want to risk another reading slump to see?

This Beauty and the Beast retelling was one of my most disappointing reads of 2018. Not even faeries could help the problematic and unintelligent writing of ACOTAR. While it’s a fan favorite in the book community, I gave it 2/5 stars. (A generous rating, in my opinion.)

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Mass

I finished Empire of Storms and own Tower of Dawn and Kingdom of Ash but I haven’t picked them up. I’ve honestly lost interest in this series and don’t care what happens to Aelin. I do, however, care deeply for Dorian and Chaol. I hope to finish this series once and for all in the new year.

Caraval by Stephanie Garber

I read Caraval in 2017 and loved it! I would say that it was one of my 5 star reads of that year. So imagine my confusion when Legendary comes out and I have no desire to pick it up. This is one of the best written circus books I’ve ever read, and the first book was so atmospheric and plot twist-y. (It’s a word.)

My problem might be my general dislike for Tella in book one. Why would I read a book focused on a character I don’t like? I’ve heard nothing but good things about Legendary so hopefully one day I pick it up.

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

I read book one in 2015. Reread it in 2017. I liked it better the second time but I don’t see anything remarkable about the story. The concept of having a lethal touch is really interesting but Mafi’s writing was simple and repetitive and the story developed way too quickly. I gave Shatter Me 3/5 stars but I am curious about everyone’s obsession with Warner.

I’m interested in continuing on but still unsure. It may be a big waste of time. This is such a popular series that I do want to know what the hype is all about. Eventually, I suppose.

Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

This tale about a human and angel falling in love with each other is one that I have DNF’d. But as I was craving for some Twilight-era, cringey, supernatural romances, I decided to give it a second chance. I begrugedly finished this time around and vow to never continue this series. It was torture enough the first one and a half times, thank you very much.

The Selection Series by Kiera Cass

Ahh, The Selection. Three books full of troupes and fluff. Well, at the time that I had first read them there was only three books in the series. Now Cass has written additions to this series based on America’s daughter. I’m not interested. The end.

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

I read the first book when it came out and heavily anticipated every book after. I couldn’t wait for War Storm so I reread Red Queen and it put me in a horrible slump. I liked the book but not as much as before. I’ll read War Storm eventually but I’m disappointed my love for this series has slowly started to fade.

The Maze Runner by James Dashner

Picture this: it’s 2015 and baby Destiny just bought the whole Maze Runner series before reading a page of the first book. Thankfully, I love the first few books and binge them. I finish Death Cure in the morning, immediately pick up Kill Order, and DNF after five or so pages.

Fast forward to 2018 and I don’t remember what happened in The Maze Runner series and I have no desire to find out.

Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan

Oh, Uncle Rick. We love Uncle Rick! But I didn’t love this series. I didn’t care for the characters the way I did with Percy Jackson’s crew. *cough* except Nico *cough*

With that being said, I haven’t read anything else by Uncle Rick since PJO so if you have suggestions, I’m listening.

The Illuminae Files by Jay Kristoff and Amy Kaufman

As of writing this, I haven’t picked up Gemina. I own the physical copy but I haven’t read it because I cannot, for the life of me, remember what happened in Illuminae. I don’t want to reread because I’m a slow reader and that takes a lot of time. I will get to it… eventually.

Do you think I should continue with any of these series? Do you recommend any other series I should read?

Please remember that if I said something about your favorite book series it is not a personal insult. I love hearing different opinions from my own and I’d love to hear how you felt about these books.

Bye for now honeybees.

Love,

Destiny

i felt the same about caraval (although i did lower my rating to a 3/5). and if you are going to continue any of these, i’d recommend giving the heroes of olympus another try! i actually preferred those characters to the ones from pjo…
